Register for the gifted and talented test
The NYC Department of Education offers all parents the chance to have their children tested for admission to a special Gifted & Talented program. Even though P.S. 124 doesn’t host such a program, all P.S. 124 students born in 2009, 2010, 2011, or 2012 are eligible to take the test and apply to programs around the city. In District 15, there are G&T programs at P.S. 32, P.S.38, and P.S. 230.
Any child taking the 2016-2017 Gifted & Talented test will have to pre-register and the registration period is now open. This means that from now until November 14, 2016, you can submit a Request for Testing. (Students born in years other than the ones listed are not eligible for the 2016-2017 test.)
A Request for Testing can be submitted in one of the following three ways:
- go on-line and apply at the Department of Education’s application website
- apply in person at P.S. 124
- apply in person at one of the Family Welcome Centers
For our school, the District 15 Family Welcome Center is located at: 29 Fort Greene Place (Room BS12) Brooklyn, NY 11217 (serving families in districts 13, 14, 15, and 16)
The deadline to submit a request for testing is Monday, November 14, 2016.
For additional information about the Gifted & Talented program and about the test, visit the NYC Department of Education Gifted & Talented web-page. You can also call 718-935-2009 with questions about the test and the placement process.
For a Parent Handbook for the 2016-2017 Gifted & Talented test, please feel free to stop by the main office. The handbook includes practice tests and instructions for doing a practice test with your child. (Identification is required in order to obtain your child’s Student Identification Number.)
