P.S. 124’s Dan Tandarich featured in NY Times profile

August 30, 2014

P.S. 124’s long-time 5th grade teacher Dan Tandarich is featured in the New York Times profile of Françoise Mouly, the New Yorker magazine editor who works to bring comic books into the classroom.

minotaurMr. Tandarich’s classroom is already set up for the first day of school (Thursday, September 4) with shelves of fiction and non-fiction paperbacks, illustrated classics such as H.G. Wells’s The Invisible Man and Robert Louis Stevenson’s Kidnapped! as well as wire racks of slim comic books filled with the adventures of Captain America, Wonder Woman, Spider Man and other heroes of the “the Big Two” publishers DC Comics and Marvel.

Click the New York Times link above to read the whole article on-line. This is not the first time Mr. Tandarich’s teaching has been in the public eye: a profile appeared in 2008, and Education Week wrote about his work back in 2006.

See if you can find him in the group portrait below.
