Our brand-new schoolyard

July 18, 2011

With colorful wall murals, new basketball hoops, benches, and activity markings, our new schoolyard is ready for a lot of running around and playing.

This project which began last year with planning and fundraising is now nearly complete.

With help from parents, teachers and students, we designed a theme and lay-out for the actual surface and also the colorful wall murals based on students’ artwork on the theme of “Outer Space.”

Key people on the murals were art teacher Gloria Truppi and parent John Lunceford.

The work on the schoolyard surface was completed by Out2Play, from a design based on the planets of the solar system.

There are benches for sitting and reading, a chess and checkers table, and basketball.

The new surface feels cushioned underfoot, thanks to a protective layer that was painted on over the original pavement. Ready? Set? Go!
