The great P.S. 124 school-yard mural

March 10, 2011

P.S. 124’s school yard is getting a grand make-over this spring.  Right now we are planning  a “outer-space” themed mural to go with the play surface design.

Any student or family member who wants to contribute ideas can bring them (on paper) to Ms. Maxil, our Parent Coordinator, in the Main Office.

Above, you can see what the surface design will look like: it’s an outer-space theme with planets marking the different activity areas (click on the image for a close-up view).
………………………………………………………………..………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

But the building walls will need a colorful mural. We’ll have all that gray space on the walls (look at the diagram at right) to fill with your designs and ideas.

Your ideas for the mural can include things like sayings or quotes, facts, drawings, culture, school spirit, etc.

The work on the schoolyard surface will be done by Out2Play, but the mural will be designed and executed by the school. This means volunteers like you!

The mural space is pretty large. Once we collect all the ideas for content (from you!) we’ll produce a drawing of what it might look like.

Here are some images of other schoolyards, to inspire you. And you can see a lot more at MuralArts.org

But we can’t do this big project without you. Parents, please get on the volunteer list to help make this project a success.

Contact Donna Maxil, our Parent Coordinator or John Lunceford, or send an e-mail to john@exoticforms.com.

This is a very exciting project and we need lots of input and volunteers to make it happen. The mural’s theme is “space” and should be complimentary to the school yard scheme pictured above.

Please post your feedback right here or email me, john@exoticforms.com .

    Once I’ve gotten the “feedback”

    – hand drawings
    – text
    – scenes

I’ll put the images on the 3D plan of the school for everyone to see…

We’ll project those images on to the walls, trace them, and paint them in. There will be opportunity for everyone to participate who wants to.

We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Parents who’d like to help paint, get to know one another, and have fun: please drop me a note and I’ll get back to you with more info and dates.

    Thanks,

    John

The Mural Arts Program website is a great resource for mural inspiration.
