About Us
Our school is located on Fourth Avenue in Park Slope, Brooklyn. We are a small school that thinks of itself as a big family. We serve a culturally diverse community with students who speak Spanish, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, English, and Polish. Our faculty is as diverse as its student population. They hail from many parts of the country. In addition, we have an higher than average number of male teachers.
We are so proud of our balance of academics, technology, and the arts. You can browse through our blog pages and see for yourself the connections being made with reading, writing, and technology. Our kids are using Voicethread, IMovie, Google docs, and more. They research on their laptops, in their classroom libraries, and in our school library which is well stocked with books of all genres, computers, and a Smartboard. Our technology program and our literacy program are both supported with outside consultants who work with our teachers and students on a regular basis.
P.S. 124 has a science lab where children get a chance to apply their knowledge to hands-on projects and experiments, an art studio where kids can get their “hands dirty” with clay, paint, and papier mâché with our resident artist, and a music program where they get to express themselves through song, musical instruments, and movement. We have a physical education program that focuses on positive ways to promote health and fitness through good nutrition and physical activity. We really believe in a well-rounded education that incorporates growing strong minds and bodies.
