Fishing for juicy words
December 4, 2009
Dear Mr.Dale,
I hope you are having fun. Our class liked the free write because you made it into a game. We would like it if you came again. Next friday we were wondering if you would like to come to our how to publishing party. Just to let you know we will have healthy food for you.
Love,
Class 206

Dear Class 206,
I am having fun, just as you hoped. As a matter of fact, right now I’m in the library with Mrs. Lane cracking a few jokes. I really like Mrs. Lane a lot. We talk about everything from how to read to how to meditate and keep yourself calm. Those conversations always inpire me.
Thank you so very much for writing me the letter about the freewrite. I’ll bet I enjoyed working with you at least as much as you enjoyed the freewrite. (Remember how we explored the idea of “at least”?) I can’t wait to come back and see what you wrote.
So far, I have had a chance to look at one person’s writing: Asael’s. He wrote good sentences, and the writing was beautiful to look at, laid out on a neat grid, with very pleasant handwriting. I can’t wait to read more.
By the way, my favorite “Juicy Word” in Asael’s list was “Miss Abodeely.”
Thanks also for inviting me to your publishing celebration. It is with great regret that I must decline the invitation. The fact is, I will be out on Long Island that day, in a town called Babylon. If you ever have a chance to visit Babylon, you should. They have a very cute downtown area, and stores that make delicious sandwiches. (I love sandwiches!)
I look forward to visiting your class as soon as possible to explore freewriting again. I love freewriting almost as much as I love sandwiches! The definition of heaven to me is to eat a sandwich while I’m freewriting, but there is always the danger of glopping mayonnaise on the paper. I’m willing to take the risk, though.
Fondly,
Mr. Dale
Dear Class 206,
How wonderful to hear from you on the blog. I’m having lots of fun! (I just went swimming and now I’m writing to you!) I bet I enjoyed doing the freewrite with you at least as much as you did. You were great! I saw Asael’s and it was really neat. I won’t be able to come to your party, unfortunately, because I’ll be out on Long Island at another school. That makes me sad, because I know your party’s going to be fantastic. I’m glad you’re serving healthy food, by the way.
Can’t wait to come read more of your freewrites.
Lots of love,
Mr. Dale
