Posting Internet Links in Blog Posts
To add a link to a web site, image or video on the web in a post on this blog, follow these steps:
1. Log in to the control panel with the username and password you got from Rhys — which you can get to from the main page (click here if you need to go to the main page) by clicking ‘Login’ in the right column under the heading ‘meta’. Once you’re logged in, choose the ‘Write’ option from the main menu to start a new post. If you’re editing an existing post, you will select ‘Manage’ from the menu and click ‘Edit’ next to the post you want to add to.
2. Open a separate browser window to find your web site by clicking ‘File’ at the top of the page, putting the mouse on ‘New’ in the dropdown menu, and selecting ‘Window’ (this can also be done by holding down the ‘ctrl’ or Apple key, and striking the ‘N’ key).
3. Browse to the resource you want to link to from your blog entry and copy the web address (URL). To copy the URL, you must highlight the information in the Address Bar of your browser (i.e. http://www.themediaspot.org/blog) by dragging your mouse over it until the entire address is highlighted in a new color. Once it is highlighted you can click ‘Edit’ in the upper left of the page, and select ‘Copy’ from the dropdown menu.
4. Return to the blog window you opened in step 1.
5. To add the link:
a. put the cursor in the Post where you want your link to appear
b. click on the ‘link’ button in the ‘Quicktags:’ menu above where you type
c. paste the web address you copied into the blank that pops up by holding down the ‘ctrl’ key or Apple key, and striking the ‘V’ key. note: the blank will contain ‘http://’ — it’s important that you paste your web address over this, or delete it first.
d. type a description of the link that will appear in the post after the end of the link code (‘>’) that was added to your Post
d. click ‘/link’ in the ‘Quicktags:’ menu above where you type to close the link code
4. click ‘Publish’ when you’re finished writing your post, or ‘Save’ when you’re finished editing a post
5. return to the blog by clicking ‘View Site’ at the top of the page, and click ‘Refresh’ to see your changes or new post
